Kathleen Behan was the daughter of John and Kathleen Kearney of Rosybrook, Co. Louth. Kathleen Kearney was originally a McGuinness from Rathmaiden in Slane. The young Kearneys went to Slane for holidays and to stay for longer times. Kathleen was an active rebel during the Easter Rising. She married twice, her second husband was Stephen Behan and their son Brendan became a poet, short story writer, novelist, and playwright. Brendan Behan visited Slane in 1956 while his play “The Quare Fellow” was achieving huge success in London.
