Meath Entries

ADAMS – Sacred to the memory of Private George Adams 100th Regt who died at Navan Co. Meath Ireland 8th of January 1875 aged 31 years.  Was loved and respected by all who him.  This tablet was erected by his affectionate father and sister William and Jane Adams.  NAVAN AMD 1894

ALCOCK – this stone and spirial place belongeth to Mr Jo’th Alcock and his posterity.  Here lieth ye body of Thos. his son who died July ye 5th 1744 aged 2 (?) years.  Here under lieth ye remains of Mr. Jo’than Alcock who departed this life December ye 2nd 1769.  AMD 1926 GREENOGE.

ALDERCRON – this vault was erected pursuant to the will of the late John Aldercron. Esqr for him and his posterity.  Here lie remains of the above named John Aldercron Esqr who departed this life the 11th day of April 1792 aged 44yrs.  Also the remains of General John Aldercron died  July 21st 1766.  Elizabeth Aldercron his wife died May 13th 1789.  Captain William Aldercron died April 4 1780.  Mrs Meliora Aldercron died July 1st 1794 and four of her children.  Also John Ladeveze Aldercron Esqr who departed this life January 23rd 1852 at Torquay Devonshire in the 71st year of his age.  This tablet has been restored by his afflicted wide Dorothea C.L. Aldercron October 1853.  Also Dorothea C. Ladeveze Aldercron died October 31st 1879.  George Rothe Ladeveze Aldercron born at Lausanne C’ton De Vaud Switzerland 15th April 1834.  Died at Leamington Warwickshire England 16th May 1884.  MOYGLARE AMD 1903.

AMBROSE – 86. Mary Redcliff Church, Bristol. Near this place is buried the body of Bridget Ambrose widow of William Ambrose of Ambrose Hall, Co. Dublin. Gent and daughter of Sir Garrett Aylmer of Ballrath, Co. Meath. Bart died 15th of August 1734 in her 55th year.  Monument erected by her only son John Ambrose. 1931 ST. MARY REDCLIFF CHURCH BRISTOL.  AMD.

ARCHDALL – “We shall also bear the image if the heavenly”.  Sacred to the memory of Mervyn Archdall AM. Rector of this parish who died 6th of August 1791 aged 68 years.  (Rev Archdall’s father’s tomb is in Lusk).  1893 SLANE C OF I CHURCHYARD.

BAGNALL – (SLAB) Here lyeth the body of Mr Richard Bagnall of Hawkinstown who departed this life the 2nd day of May 1773 aged 57 years and ? of his children. PIERCTOWN  J.M.D. 1930 

BAKER –In the adjoining churchyard lies the body of Richard Baker Esqr of Gardiners Row Dublin and Stirling Co. Meath.  Eldest son of Oliver Baker of Clonard who departed this life 18th of February 1853 aged 67 years.  Also the body of Mary Baker widow of the above Richard Baker daughter of the late Francis Mac Farlane formerly of Stirling Co. Meath Esqr. Who died on the 23rd March 1863 aged 63 years.  “Therefore be ye also ready”.  J.M.D 1930.

BALFE – This cross was erected at the charge of Robert Balfe of Galmerstone being Soueraine of the Corporation of Kells.  Anno Dom 1688 (on the high cross in Market Street) KELLS AMD 1900.

BARKER – Underneath are deposite the remains of the Revd.  John Barker who departed this life the 5th of Jany 1796 in the 54th year of his age.  Also Peter Barker son to the above who departed this life the 11th of April 1803 aged 7 years as a small tribute of affection this stone has been erected to their memory by their afflicted wife and mother.  MOYGLARE  AMD 1903.

BARKER – Sacred to the memory of Charles Barker Esqr. Of Croboy in this parish who died AD 1718, Also to Lieut. Col . James Barker 2nd Queens Royal Regiment of foot, second son of Oliver Barker Esqr of Croboy who died July 11th 1800 aged 84 years.  And was the last of his family buried beneath. 1930 CLONARD CHURCH A.M.D.

BARLOW – Dr John Barlow father of Edward and John.  CLONARD AMD 1902.

BARLOW – John Barlow physician late of Moate died in 1817 at age of 59 years and his son Edward Barlow physician died aged 31 in 1815.  CLONARD AMD 1902.

BARLOW – Surgeon Edward Barlow late of Mullingar had the care of Co. Westmeath Infirmary for fifty six years died aged 81 years. CLONARD AMD 1902.

BARLOW – Near this church are interred the mortal remains of Edward Barlow Esq of Mullingar and Anne his wife whose decease and ages are recorded on a stone placed over their grave.  The record of their virtues are on high.  This  frail monument is erected by their children as a tribute their worth and as a mark of grateful affection for parents no less loved than revered.  1930 CLONARD CHURCH. BARNEWALL – Reading of Barnewall plaque over door. STACKALLEN AMD 1891

BARNEWALL – Here lyeth the corpse of Alexander Barnewall sometyme of Roberstown who deceased the 7th of Nov 1596.  Alison Netterville his wife caused this monument to be made Anno 1618 orate pro animabis, Ys monument renewed by Rogr Mc Mahn for his posterity.  Respice finem (tombstone). ROBERTSTOWN AMD 1899.

BARNEWALL – “Hiere lyeth the corps of Alexander Barnwell somtyn …..tstow  who deceased the 3 of November 159-  Alson Nettirvil his wife caused thjs monument to be made Anno 1618.  (Tomb sunk 3 feet into the ground. 2 shield. on the centre).  Second inscription on the stone.  ROBERTSTOWN CHURCHYARD AMD 1888.

BARNEWALL – Barnewall inscription See Sir William Betham’s papers in British Museum “Additional Mss 23685” Also see Burkes Peerage under the Barnewall baronets. 1910 CRICKSTOWN A.M.D.

BARNEWALL – Sarsfieldstown Wayside Cross.  Inscription translated “Octavian, Archbishop Primate of all Ireland, has granted an indulgauce of thirty days in perpetuity to every one, truly contrite, as often as they shall devoutly say an our Father and Hail Mary for the souls of Sir Christopher Barnewall KT and Elizabeth Plunkett and of all Parish of Moorechurch the faithful departed Dates before 1513. Slaine otherwise Bolsage Tomb “ This monument was erected by Randal Lord Baron of Slaine married first to Ellinor Barnewall who here is entered, daughter to Sir Richard Barnewall of Chrickes towne Knigh and Baronett and after to Lady Penelope Moore daughter of the Earl of Drogheda Anno 1667”  AMD 1891

BATHE – Cross in town centre on pedestal.  Description follows: West side of cross. “This cross was builded by Janet Dowdall wife to Willaim (Ba) the ….. of Ahoune(?) …Justice of her Majestic Court of Comon Pleas for him and her Anno 1601. He deceased the 15 Oct 1599.  Buried in the church of Dunleer whose soulles pray God take to his mercie. JULLIANSTOWN AMD 1892.

BEDFORD – Pray for the soul of Thomasind Bedford wife unto William Moore of Downstown who died December 12th 1635.  (On cross in town of Duleek)  DULEEK AMD 1901

BEDLOW – Daus P Videbit om Dno confido “The Ams of John Bedlow Knight and Dame Ismay Nugent his wife before to Thomas Cass of Athboy made this bridge in An Dom 1584 desiring all those passing to pray for them all there”. MARTINSTOWN ATHBOY AMD 1892

BELLEWE – This window was made by Sir John Bellewe Knight and Dame Ismay Nugent his wife in the year of our Lord 1587 (window in the priory of St. Mary) DULEEK AMD 1901.

BELLEWE – Here lieth the body of Colo….. Thomas Bellew who departed this life the 23rd day of December 1733 Aged 72 years.  COLPE AMD 1900

BELLEW – Sacred to the memory of Christopher Kelly Bellow Esq. of the Kingdom of Ireland late of the Inner Temple, died July 23rd 1804. Also to the memory of Mrs Paine late of Edward Street, bath, widow of John Paine Esqr. of Archhall near Trim in the county of Meath, Ireland,. She died 5th May 1818 in the 88th year of her age.  Sacred to the memory of Mrs. Christian Evans, widow late of Edward Street, Bath, who died 18th April 1824 in the 90th year of her age.  1933-34: St. Michael’s Church, BATH. BELLEW – This tombe hath been repaired and the vault made by Dame Mary Bermingham wife to John Lord Bellew who was shot in the belly in Aughrim fight in the 12th July 1691 as soon as he found himself able to undertake a journey he went with his Lady to London where he died 12 January 1692. He was laid in a vault in West Minister till the April following his corpse was brought hither. JULIANSTOWN AMD 1892.

BENNET – Erected by Catherine Bennet of Sidney, New South Wales in memory of her beloved father John Bennet who departed this life 30th July 1844 aged 54 years. Her brother James June 1847 aged 11 years, Edward May 1849 aged 15 years.  Also her beloved mother Margaret Bennet who died May 1859 aged 52 years.  Her brother Thomas who died young. BERMINGHAM – IHS To the memory of Thos. Bermingham, Carpenter late of the city of Dublin who departed this life January 16th AD 1809 aged 68 years.  Here are deposited his remains with those of Mary and Agnes Berm his children.  Here also lieth the remains of Cathe Birmingham  a beloved and virtuous wife and an affectionate and tender mother who departed this life January – 8th AD 1822 aged 67 years.  AMD 1926 GREENOGE

BERRILL – Edward Berrill departed this life the 3rd of May 1740 aged 84 AMD 1891

BERRILL – This stone and burial place belongeth to Christopher Berrill of Drogheda where lieth the body of his beloved wife Lucy Berrill whose virtue as a wife makes her most sensibly regarded by her husband. She departed this life 31 May 1784 aged 21 years.  DONORE 1914  JMD

BERRILL – Here lieth the body of Richard Berrill late of Platten who departed this life 18 Oct. 1781 (?) aged 56 years.  Also the remains of his wife Catherine Berrill alias Pentony who departed this life 21 Jan 1807 in the 80th year of her age. DONORE 1914 JMD

BIRNEY – Erected to the memory of Mr. William Birney who died ye 8th day of Decemb. 1760 aged 49 years by Mary Birney otherwise Fox his beloved wife who died May 9th 1796 aged 76 years.  1893 NAVAN AMD.

BLACKBURN – (Stone at east end of ruined church) Gloria in Excelsis Deo I H S of your charity pray for the souls of James Blackburn died 15 Feb 1860 aged 63 years.  His wife Mary died 5th Sept 1863 aged 61 years.  Their children – Ellen died 3 April 1857 aged 16 years.  Hugh died 24 Dec 1857 aged 25 years. Mary died 31 July 1858 aged 19 years.  Michael died 15 Feb 1860 aged 29 years.  Christopher died 6 Jan 1861 aged 26 years. James died 23 April 1862 aged 25 years.  May they Rest in Peace Amen.  AMD 1895 RATHREGAN CHURCHYARD.

BLAKE – I H S Gloria in Excelsis Deo of your charity pray for the soul of George Blake late of Trim who died May 8th 1855 (?) aged 34 years.  The Rev. Thomas Allen erected this monument to the memory of his devoted friend. KILBERRY J.M.D.

BLAKE – Erected by Judith Blake in memory of her husband Farrel Blake who departed this life Aug. 14th 1806 aged 67 years.  Also her daughter Bridget Blake who dep. this life May the 12th 1814 aged 26 years.  Also her son George Blake who departed this life July the 1st 1814 aged 30 years and their posterity.  1930 ORISTOWN AMD.

BLIGH – Bligh slab circa 1666.  John Bligh citizen of London son of William Bligh of Plymouth founder of Bligh Family in Ireland. Details on Bligh Family. RATHMORE CHURCH AMD 1908.

BLIGH – Altar tomb inscription in Latin damaged to John Bligh. AMD 1895 RATHMORE.

BLIGH – Mausoleum, Thomas Bligh Lieutenant – General of his Majesty’s forces and general of horse, who France’s arms withstood at Dettingen, at Val, at Melle at Fontenoy and Cherbourge.  Not for his own but his country’s good he made this improvement built all these houses and temples since the year 1732 born AD 1695.  Died Aug 17th 1775 aged 80 years.  Full account of Bligh history.  NOBBER AMD 1888. (Brittas).

BLIGH – ( Mural Tablet) Beneath this monument are interred the remains of Thomas Bligh Lieutenant General of his majesty’s forces, General of Horse at the Battle of Dettingen Val Fontenoy and Melle and Commander in Chief of the British Troops at Cherburg who after spending many years in the service of his Country with unwearied application Retired to a Private life. Therein to prepare his old age.  For a change to a better state and to enjoy with unspeakable comfort the hopes of a happy immortality.  Born AD, 1695 Died Aug the 17th 1775 aged 80 years. In the same tomb lies his sister Catherine Lehunt who died April the 26th 1772 aged 84 years. (Surmounted with coat of Arms). AMD 1895 RATHMORE.

BOURNS – (Graveslab) I H S. Sacred to the memory of Mr. Richard Bourns of Ashbourne, Civil Engineer who departed this life 1(5?)th of March 18 (55?) aged 46 years.  His sister Mrs Catherine (Henshion) who departed this life 12th Dec 18(56?) aged ….. years.  RATOATH GRAVEYARD CO. MEATH.  JMD 1987

BOYLAN –This stone was erected by Patrick Boylan for his posterity.  Here lyeth the body of Rich’d Boylan who departed this life Oct 20th 1753 aged 24 years.  AMD 1926 GREENOGE.

BOYLAN – Erected by John Boylan of Mountpleasent in memory of his beloved wife Jane Boylan who departed this life Oct 28th 1857 aged 49 years, Also his brother Thomas who died May 21st 1831 aged 26 years and his brother Christopher died Sept.13th 1859 aged 71 years.  Also his brother ……… died Oct.21st 1868 aged 69 years. BRADY – Michael Brady in memory of his father Hugh Brady died January 4 1758 aged 70.  Alexr. Laur & Thos sons of said Hugh. Laur died November 3rd 1760 aged 19.  Thos March 1 1779 aged 60.  KNOCK GRAVEYARD AMD 1890.

BRADY – Erected by Capn John Brady of Castletown Athboy in memory of his beloved parents.  His mother Bridgett Brady departed this life Jany 14th 1843 aged 43 years and his father Edward Brady departed this life 4th Decr 1869 aged 74 years.  Also his sister Mrs Anne Murtagh Castletown Athboy departed this life 17Decr 1901 aged 68 years. May they Rest in Peace.  RATHMORE AMD 1908.

BRADY – Erected by Cormick Brady in memory of his wife Anne Brady who departed this life Novr 4th 1795 aged 36 years.  Oh Lord have mercy on their souls. RATHMORE AMD 1908.

BRAXTON – Here lyeth ye body of Edward Braxton Gen. who departed this life 12th January 1733 aged 78 years and also of ye body of law Roy Surgeon who dyed 17th Sept 1721 aged 25 years and also ye body of Thos Roy Merch who died 17th of October 1716 aged 19 years, As also ye body of Elis Roy als Braxton who departed this life the 9th day of De Br 1728 in the hundred and 2nd ye of her age. As also the body of Ann Roy alais Bamount wife of Yas Roy Eqr who departed this life the 15th day of September 1729 in the 56 year of her age, Elizabeth Roy alais Walker on who departed this life ye …….. of Feb 1736 aged 76 years.  AMD 1926 NAVAN CHURCHYARD

BRENNAN – Here lieth the body of Mary Anne Brennan who departed this life the 3rd day of Nov. 1790 aged Eighty years and six months. Requiescut in Pace. This monument

was erected by her father Edmd Brennan for himself and his posterity. 1919 NEWTOWN Trim AMD.

BRENNAN – IHS erected by Rose Brennan of Navan in  Memory of her husband who died in February 1855 aged 53 years, of her son Michael Brennan who died in Feb’y 1846 aged 21.  Rose Brennan died January 1887, Philip Brennan died Sept.1891.  Ellen Brennan died1901. BROWN – Also Matthew Brown who departed this life April 30th 1811 aged 48 years. Both grandsons of the above John and Mary Brown.  Also Mary Brown who departed this life Augt 23rd 1814 aged 54 years. Mother to the above Christopher and Matthew. Here also lies the Remains of John Brown of Barrickstown Maynooth. Son of the above John and Mary and Father of Christopher + Matthew. He was known and respected above half a century by the appellation of “Farmer Brown”. He departed this life in the 86th year of his age on the 22nd Octr. 1816.  1893.  RODDANSTOWN AMD

BROWN –This alter tomb was erected for the posterity of Mr. John Brown who came from Buckinghamshire in England and landed in Ireland the 25th day of June 1751.  Here lieth the body of Mrs Mary Brown the loving wife of the above John and daughter of Mr Stephen Ues of Dorsetshire in England who departed this life the 2nd day of February 1757 aged 54 years.  I waited long and sought the Lord…………. Here lieth the body of Mr John Brown who departed this life the 25th day of November 1758 aged 54 years, husband of the above Mrs Mary Brown , the son of Mr Christopher Brown of Taplow in Buckinghamshire England. Also Christopher Brown who departed this life September 7th 1798 aged 28 years.  Also Matthew Brown who departed this life April 30th 1811 aged 48 years.  Both grandsons of the above John and Mary Brown. Also Mary Brown who departed this life August 23rd 1814 aged 54 years.  Mother to the above Christopher and Matthew. Here also lies the remains of John Brown of Barrickstown Maynooth son of the above John and Mary and father of Christopher and Mathew. Robt Staples of Dummore, Queens Co., Bart and wife of Richard R Fitzherbert Esqr who died on the 16th of July 1868 aged 83 years.  Her life  was passed in doing good.

HUTTON – Sacred to the memory of Lieut. Gen. Henry Hutton RA  LLD  F.S.A who departed this life at Moate, Co. Westmeath.  On the 28th June 1827.  Aged 66 years.  And of Eleanor Ellis his wife (Daughter of John Barlow Esqr of Moate) who died there the 5th of August 1829 aged 46 years and whose mortal remains are interred in the family burying ground in this churchyard.  Their only son caused this monument to be erected acknowledging his inadequacy to pay a tribute sufficiently deserving to the memory of parents, whose virtues so justly entitle them upon Earth to the esteem and affection of their friends and relatives.  1930 CLONARD CHURCH.  AMD.

JONES – (Beside communion table) Here lyeth the body of Richard Jones esqr. who departed this life February 2nd 1729.  His grand uncle Sr. Roger Jones was the first of that family who came from Denbighshire in Wales to settle in this kingdom.  He was marryed to Mary youngest daughter to Sr. Albert Conyngham by whom he had one son and three daughters, his son Roger Jones esqr. his daughters Margaret Jones and Mary Murray together with one child of his son, twelve children of his daughter Jane Sampson, three of his daughter Mary Murray lyeth here interred.  In his life he was greatly esteemed and at his death much lamented by all who knew his many good qualities.  To the memory of a tender and affectionate husband his grateful widow at her proper expense has erected this monument.  1893 RODDANSTOWN AMD.

Also of George Lowther only son of George and father of the above Elizabeth and George he died 10 August 1785 age 46 years.  Also of George Lowther of Kilrue in the County of Meath of which country he was representative in five successive parliaments and during many of the latter years of his life was distinguished as father of the house of commons.  He was ………. descended from the Lowthers of ……… a branch of which family settled  in the county of Fermanagh giving their name for the town called Lowther in the county of Meath to which were added others derives from his mother Jane daughter of Sir Tristram Beresford and sister of the first earl of Tyrone. He died 22nd February 1792 age 79 years.  Also of Frances wife of the above George Lowther, this lady an heiress was daughter of chambre Bzabiazon Ponsoby grand daughter  of the Honourable Major General Ponsoby who was killed at Battle of Fontenoy and great nice of the 1st Earl of Besbrough . Latin translation – No one ought to be grieved at death since in livng there is labour and danger while in dying there is peace and the assurance of resurrection.  Pray for the soul of Rory MacMahon who made me.  Irish Translation – God expects from everybody who reads this and understands that the pains of purgatory are the shorter and the mercy of god the more speedy for the prayers of Christ – to offer a prayer of charity for the soul of him who wrote this and for whom it was written namely Rory bui MacMahon.  Dated 1575 rediscovered in early 1800s.  MacMahon not native of area populated districk of Jarney, Co. MOCKLER – To the memory of Captain Robert Mockler late of the 36 Regt of Foot who on the 16th day of July closed an Honorable life.  The last 20 of which had been devoted  to the service of his King and Country.  He passed through life unblemished and death has set a seal upon his character (table tomb) 1906 BALSOON CHURCHYARD AMD.

MOCKLER – (close to w. wall of church, granite headstone).  Here lieth the body of John Mockler Esqr of Trim, who departed this life on the x day of June AD 1811 aged 79 years.  This stone was erected by his only surviving son Captn John Mockler as a tribute of affection and dutiful respet to the memory of the best of parents. 1921 ST PATRICKS CHURCH TRIM AMD.

O BEIRNE – Near this place are interred the mortal remains of the most Reverend and Right Honourable Lewis O Beirne DD Lord Bishop of Meath.  The Chief objects of whose life were to promote happiness in his family by affection and benevolence and to diffuse Piety and Holiness through his Diocese by guiding and directing his parochial clergy in the performance of awful duties. Incumbent on them as ministers of the United Church.  During the 25 years that he presided over this see.  There was erected in it 72 glebe houses and 57 churches. O’CONNOR – This stone was placed here by George O’Connor Esqr of Ardhona in memeory of his parents John & Dorothy.  The latter of whom lived to be 104 years old and died in 1784.  And of his dear wife Judith who died in 1746 leaving him six children 3 son and 3 daughters of whom Richard Barry and Judith died before him and he was gathered to his friends on the 30th of May 1791 aged 84 years.  (Large slab east end) 1912 DONAGHMORE AMD

O’NEILL – Here lyeth the body of Sr. Bryan O’Neille Bart one of the Justices of the Kings Bench in the reign of King James 2nd and dyed ye 17 of October 1697 and ye body of Dame Mary his wife, his sister to Lord Dunsany and the body of Dame Mary O’Neille ais Bagot who dyed March the 1st 1714 who was wife to Sir Henry O’Neille  the sd SR Bryan’s son who erected this tomb anno domini 1716.  O’Neill barontage was created in November 1643 in the person of Sir Bryan Mac Owen O’Neill of Dublin.  He died in 1670 leaving issue by his first wife Jane Finch a son also named Bryan.  Sir Bryan 2nd Baronet was of  Backerstown Co. Dublin.  He married Mary sister of Christopher Plunkett, Baron of Dunsany and window of James Wolverston.  Obiit April 1666 of Stillorgan, Co. Dublin.  She died in 1699, his death occurred 17th Oct. 1697.  His son and heir was Sir Henry O’Neill 3rd Baronet of Kellystown near Drogheda who was twice married, first to Mary daughter of Mark Bagot of Mount Arran (now Mount Wolesly and formerly Crosslow in the Co. Carlow.  Secondly to Rose daughter of Capt. James Brabazon.  Sir Henry O’Neill died on the 1st November 1759 aged 85 and was buried in the old church at Monk Newtown Co. Meath.  Since the death of Sir Francis O’Neill 7th Baronet in 1799 this title has been dormant.  1915 DUNSANY AMD

O’REILLY – (Tablet in chancel) To the memory of Sophia Eliza for 45 years the beloved wife of Fleming Pinkstan O’Reilly of Rathaldron Castle and Mountjoy Square, Dublin 4th daughter of Caleb Barnes of Mahanstown in this county, a deputy governor and J.P. of this county and J.P. of the county of Cavan and Captain of the Lower Kells Corps. of Yoemanry. She died on the 15th day of June 1844 in the 69th year of her age.  Her mortal remains (lie at her own desire) interred with several of her beloved grandchildren in the burying ground of St. George’s Parish in the city of Dublin.  Also to the memory of the above named Fleming Pinkstan O’Reilly Esq, who departed this life on the 12th July 1844 in the 75th year of his age, 35 of which he was Treasurer of this his native county, whose remains are interred in the above St. George’s burial ground and also to the memory of Fleming Pinkstan grandson of the above who died at Rathaldron Castle on the 4th of March 1848 aged 10 months.  NAVAN AMD 1892.

TAAFFE – In the beneath tomb is buried the body of Stephen Taaffe Esq. with that of the noble Alice Plunkett one of the daughters of the Rt Honble Matthew late lord of Louth His first wife died in the year 1707 aged 36 years and of the Rt. Honble Mabella Barnewell of the daughter of the RT Honble Henry late Lord Viscount Kingsland and Lady Dowager of Howth his second wife who died 1711 aged 37 years and of his father Laurence Taaffe Esq who died in 1709 and of Bridget Burck one of the daughters of Sir John. Bart his third wife who died in the year 1716 aged 27. The said Stephen by his late will appointed the sd tomb to be ected in honour of his sd Father and sd wives and as a burial place for his posterity.  He departed this life in the 15th August aged 66 years. Late of the City of Dublin and of Isabella his wife.  The former of whom departed this life on the 15th day of November 1782 and the latter the 9th day of September 1816.  This stone was erected by their only son as a tribute of respect to the memory of his parents and is testimony of his sincere affection for them and for his sisters Jane and Mary Tew who remains are also here interred.  The said John Tew was the fourth son of William Tew Esqr. of Roddinstown house in this parish by Hester daughter of James Mc Manus Esqr. of Maynooth in the county of Kildare and of Elizabeth daughter of John Nelson Esqr. of Kilboggan in the County of Westmeath. TUITE – (Latin stone Translation)  The monument of Philip Tuite Lord of Fermer and Newcastle which James Tuite son of the deceased  erected at his own expense in perpetual memory of his father and caused to be inscribed with the following lines AD 1692.  Here lies Philip cast down by cruel death whom too unfriendly fate carried off before his time, whom valour exalted above the obscure realms of the commun herd and faith the not unworthy associate of valour whom labour and never ceasing watchfullness in all things of times put on a par with the highest in the land.   He the son of so great a father,and the survivor of this calamity erected this tomb at his own expense.  He died 1688 aged 48 years.  LOUGH CREW  J.M.D  1909
