MONKSTOWN GRAVEYARD WALTERSTOWN, CO. MEATH

This graveyard has recently been cleaned by a working party consisting of the following persons: Mr Christy Collins, Mr Seamus Duffy, Mr Peter Austin, Mr Jim McGuirk, Mr Thomas Finnegan.  They have cleared away the overgrowth of trees and briars: cleaned up the remains of the ancient church: set up fallen gravestones and removed from them moss and lichen.  Finally they have set up a wooden cross against the western boundary and, over the summer season, kept the graveyard and its approaches mown.  Meath Country Council has placed a new gate on the road leading to the graveyard.

This commendable parochial effect was drawn to the attention of the Chairman of the Meath branch of An Taisce, Miss Marie Fennell who felt that the older gravestones should be recorded.  All inscriptions prior to 1925 have been taken down by members of An Taisce viz: Marie Fennell, Margaret Reilly and Elizabeth Hickey.  They read as follows:
