HEADSTONES AND INSCRIPTIONS

Recorded by Dr Beryl F E Moore and Michael Kenny 1978

Moymet graveyard is square and I think may have had a circular walk now completely covered in grass.  Very considerable remains of the little church have survived.  It was built by Sir Lucas Dillon chief baron of the exchequer in the reign of Queen Elizabeth: who reigned from 1558 to 1603.  The church appears to have been built in two separate parts… Chancel older and narrower than the nave which is wider.  Mr. Richard Haworth found a small piece of glass in the upper part of the East window.  George Du Noyer the antiquarian artist who lived at Slane in 1844-5 produced a very fine drawing of this little church which shows that the West wall did not exist in his day.  There are no headstones or tablets in the ruined church.
