MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS

Recorded by Noel E. French August 1987

Bishop Dopping’s visitation in 1682 – 1685 recorded the cancel and church ruined since 1661.  However, the church must have been rebuilt.  It was used by the Established church for religious services up to the 1830’s.  In recent years a carved stone which dated from the Middle Ages was found in the graveyard.

The walls of the small church stand in the middle of a large graveyard.  The walls are now very overgrown with ivy.  To the southeast of the ruin is a stone vaulted tomb.  It is possible to see into this vault through a hole.  I am not sure to whom this tomb belonged possibly the Hussey’s.

Most of the graves are on the south side of the ruin.
